So, this last weekend I finished the application process for becoming a Painting Bachelor in Fine Arts Major at EKU. Basically I set up a bunch of my past work (5-6 paintings, 6-7 drawings focusing on figure and perspective, and 6-8 works in 2D and 3D) on Wednesday with the help of both my painting instructors. I had a nice space in the Advanced Painting studio to hang everything up and I think that helped quite a bit when they saw my stuff on Friday morning.
I got official word from the school that I'd made it the next day in the evening, but my print professor (who is awesome) told me ahead of time that I passed as I was cleaning up and putting away things Friday afternoon, so I got to hear early. Apparently there's also a portfolio with comments in it about my pieces from the professors that I will end up getting next week.
I have heard so many comments from other students about how nit-picky they are with BFA applications, so I am thrilled I only had to do this once. There's currently only one other Painting BFA major in the school right now and he had to apply twice, and there was another guy who was rejected and gave up afterwards and went with a Bachelor's in Arts degree.
Also, I'm experimenting with oils now and they're quite fun. I think I'll set up another few canvases to work on in addition to the main assignment since oil dries so slowly, though, and it's particularly easy to muddy. I have plans to enter a few school contests both this year and next year.
I realize I have not updated in a long time. I'll try to post some cool things soon.
Have fun, everyone!
