Photoshop 7 and Art Rage (for background texture).
I had fun doing this one. I love the colors and textures, and I am amazed that I am actually HAPPY with something that I did mostly in Photoshop. ^.^
In any case it's not based off any one cat, but if this fellow were real I think his name would be Xerxes. I miss having cats. We used to have many outdoor barn cats, but our neighborhood is comprised primarily of families with dogs, so they disappeared over the years due to unfortunate circumstances. (Stupid Rufus and Company.) None of them were ever quite so large as Xerxes-- they were all sleek and thin and nervous little creatures. Some of them were half-way tamed and others wouldn't get near me.
But now we have our two indoor dogs (Welsh corgis) and that is quite enough. I think Mom would tear her hair out if I brought home a kitten.
What resolution did you work in? Hopefully fine enough for prints because I think it would be popular.
After a having a catless house with 2 dogs, I adopted 2 kittens. I've slowly introduced them to the dogs (about a month) and now they are good friends.
(I still get nervous when the dogs lick the kittens!)
I'm glad your pets are getting along together! Sometimes animals can be funny about that sort of thing and never really do like each other-- and then you hear stories of mother dogs adopting kittens, etc. I think our dogs would get along just fine with another animal, although they'd be insanely curious at first. However they've behaved around other people's pets and small children extraordinarily well so I don't think it would be a problem...
I used 8 by 11 and I think somewhere around 300 pixels, but since I don't have a print account worrying about that sort of thing right now is kind of moot, 'specially since I haven't allowed myself to get a paid account yet. Maybe eventually once I get around to figuring out PayPal. . .
I'm glad you like it though! I really enjoyed drawing this one. It was relaxing when I was nervous about signing up for college classes and couldn't sleep. =.=
I'd like to show you some awesome nature related work from more or less unknown artists which deserve more attention - this is a must see, you won't regret it!!!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
I'm a lover of visual impacts. I like brilliant colors and shapes. And I decided to collect a whole stack of deviations that reflect that taste. These pieces showcased below deserve every bit of publicity you can give them. x)P

I read a book that had a cat named Xerxes in it.

Non-anime artist for mediocrity!
The composition, colors, everything is great!
